I’m doing some tutor assessments today, but only because I completely missed that it’s a bank holiday. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t really mind working on a bank holiday, I can just take the following day off I want one, but I’m a little concerned that the hotel lounge I use for the tutor assessments will be really busy. It could be the other way round, and completely dead, which would be perfect.
Also, I finally got some feedback from the participants of my pilot course to teach people how to tutor; they really took a long time to respond. It’s actually really interesting to read through the comments, because some parts of the course have been criticised and complemented, and I’m not sure how to process that. Something that I always find interesting is the idea of asking students (because these people learning to tutor were essentially my students) to judge the effectiveness of a class themselves. In some cases I’m not sure that ideas were correctly understood (which is my fault), but then the student can’t really judge their grasp of an idea, because he/she still doesn’t understand it. However, having said all of that, the feedback was hugely positive, with lots of people saying that they were pleasantly surprised at the extent to which they were involved, rather than a boring teacher just lecturing the whole time.
