Blue Tutors

Welcome to my Blue Tutors profile. I'm here to help with many aspects of musicianship, including music theory (e.g. ABRSM Grade 5), composition (e.g. for GCSE or A-level), jazz improvisation, musicology and trumpet and other brass playing. With a music degree from the University of Cambridge, postgraduate jazz study from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, over four years' of one-to-one teaching experience and a broad musical background encompassing jazz, classical, soul, pop, funk, Latin and world music, I can provide you with expert and flexible tutoring across many areas. Whether you're preparing for an exam, looking to expand your skills or just challenge yourself, I can help with a tailored programme for your goals. Do get in touch to discuss your specific needs.
I enjoy meeting students from different backgrounds, and with different aims and skills and working to shape my tutoring to their individual strengths. As a jazz musician, I am highly trained in listening and adapting to others and I enjoy bringing this flexibility to my teaching work. My aim is that all my students should feel ownership of their own musicianship, in whatever forms that may take.
I am an active composer, arranger and jazz performer, appearing regularly with my trio Highwalk, neo-soul band Mode9 and many other varied artists. Some of my works are published by Kevin Bell Music/Big Jazz Face and I particularly enjoy composing and arranging for big band. Beyond music, I enjoy radio comedy, reading (especially SF and fantasy epics such as Game of Thrones) and walking in Epping Forest.
