Assessments and Qualifications

Last week we held some more assessments for potential tutors, which I always enjoy since a lot of the work I do now, I do on my own, and it’s a nice feeling to finish a day thinking that you’ve met a few people with whom you’ll be working for a number of years. The assessments went well overall, and we found a lot of good tutors. It was a bit worrying waking up to see the country covered in snow, because that usually means that few people are able to make their assessment time, but luckily very few people were affected.

The rest of the week was quite varied, but I managed to get a decent amount done, mainly on who to speak to about our new style of assessments, in the hope that we may get some support so that it’s seen as a qualification that many tutors will want.

Cammil and I have also started trying to improve the way in which we decide what people can tutor. So far it’s been a case of manually looking at a tutor’s qualifications, and using them to decide which subjects they can teach, but we’re going to try and make this automatic, and also a sliding scale, so tutors are rated differently for teaching different subjects and levels. Hopefully this will make us even better at identifying the best tutors for a particular student.
