A Couple of Assessing Tutors Problems

It’s difficult to know what to write about this week. I suppose the nature of what I do means that sometimes I end up doing a load of things that might be related to tutoring, but not really things that anyone wants to hear about. I might resort to finding something interesting to do each week, even if it’s not that important, just so I can write about it here.

I have trained two tutor assessors in the last 7 days. Generally both days went well, except that one of the potential tutors (all assessors have to assess real applicants as part of the training) didn’t turn up on one day, so I’m watching that assessor do some more assessments this week. Also, one of the assessors was a little uncomfortable at the end, because she didn’t fully see how the assessment would compare to her personal measure of a tutor. Of course, that’s not a necessary requirement to conduct the assessment, but obviously I don’t want someone to be assessor if they’re uncomfortable at all, so it’s something we’ll have to work on.
