Recruiting Tutors and Good Luck for the Exams

In the last week I’ve been concentrating on finding tutors for the upcoming academic year. Each year we spend the summer trying to recruit tutors, so that by September everyone’s set-up and ready to teach. It actually works very well, because we’re very busy with student requests for most of the rest of the year, but in the summer we have some time to work on finding tutors. Obviously our recruitment process is constant throughout the year, but tutors finding out about us in, say, January, is usually by word of mouth, or a delayed result of our efforts in the summer.

So, later this week Harriet and I will be travelling to Oxford to put flyers in all the students’ pigeonholes. Friends have often asked why I don’t just get some students to do this for me, but I actually enjoy it. When you spend all your time in front of a computer, or tutoring, or training assessors, it’s nice to do something which is a bit physically tiring.

Lastly, good luck to everyone taking their exams this week (but particularly Blue Tutors students). Hopefully the weather will cool down a little (at least during the week), so it’s not so ridiculously uncomfortable for everyone in the exam halls around the country.
