My work this week has been based around getting us ready for online tuition. Although we have a great programmer who is doing a lot of the work, there are a number of things that I have to do to make everything work together. The first of which is allowing students to log in to the website. This functionality has always existed, because our tutors can log in, but there are a few changes that had to be made. This is actually pretty much ready to go now, and offers a lot to students besides online tuition; students will also be able to view their past lessons, request another tutor without completing all of their details again, and eventually become more involved when helping us to select the best tutor for them.
Next I have to fiddle around with our PayPal account so that we can accept any amount online (currently we only take PayPal payments for assessment fees, and that’s a fixed value). This will also mean that we can accept credit cards payments for commission, which I’m hoping will make some our tutors happy. The only other thing on my list before online tuition goes live is to sort out our accounting system, which is currently a little illogical. It’s good timing too, with the financial year ending today.
