Report on Finding an Effective Tutor

An article published recently on a news network website lauds the benefits of having a private tutor, and give advice for parents when choosing their tutor, and during the tuition process. The advice comes from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Minnesota and North Dakota, and tries to ensure that students have the right expectations before private tuition, and can assess how effective their lessons have been.

The advice initially relates to how to choose the best tutor for your child. Obviously the best way is to get referrals from a friend, or even from your child’s school, so that you can find someone with a track record of happy students. Next BBB suggests ensuring that you check your new tutor’s credentials, including their academic qualifications, and any references from past students.

Finally, the advice is about how to manage the lessons once tuition begins. BBB advises an initial meeting where you and the tutor can discuss arrangements for the lessons, and set realistic goals that can be measured over time. They also suggest that you occasionally sit in on your child’s lessons, and ask the tutor what you can do to help your child’s progress.
