Quiet at Christmas

The demand for tuition has slowed down a little over the last few weeks. Almost everyone thinking about getting a tutor for their January exams has got one now, and with the Christmas holidays approaching most student’s and tutor’s minds are preoccupied with arrangements over Christmas. Unfortunately I always seem to be distracted around this time of year too, with Christmas shopping, and planning to see family and friends. This year is even more hectic than usual because my sister is getting married on the 22nd of December, and I’m off to Australia for a friend’s wedding on the 3rd of January. That’s the time when being self-employed feels a little less fun; when everyone else hits the beach in the morning, I’ll be in an internet cafe just checking that everything’s running smoothly.

One of the few interesting things I did last week was working on the tuition course I’m planning. A friend helped me a while ago to improve upon the pilot course I ran earlier in the year, and I’ve been so busy that I’ve only just got round to doing more work on it. One of the hardest tasks was to find a set of problems to help tutors experience holding the space, but I’m quite happy with what I’ve come up with, and hopefully, when I test the course at the start of next year, everything will work well.
