A convicted sex offender has started a tutoring business in Colorado. That’s according to the Denver News website, which reports that a number of people in the area have expressed deep concerns regarding Dr. Alan Dubelman’s foray into private tuition.
Dubelman was convicted of inappropriate conduct with a number of his female patients in 1994, but served less than a year in jail. He has since been accused of two further counts of assault, one of which led to a conviction. He is also required to register as a sex offender. This is why Dubelman’s past victims are concerned about his ambitions to tutor children; they feel that he has shown a willingness to reoffend, and, despite past offences only involving adults, it’s felt that Dubelman should not be allowed regular contact with children.
An investigator set up a meeting with Dr. Dubelman under the pretence of wanting a tutor for her child. When asked where the lessons would take place, Dubelman said at his home, but assured the investigator that his wife would be present at all times. He continued to say that he has stopped being a doctor because he’s getting old, and prefers to relax, and just undertake the tutoring work which he enjoys. It was later discovered that Dubelman has separated from his wife, and, although is still allowed to practise medicine, his application to do so again was recently rejected.
When the investigator explained the real reason for the interview, Dr. Dubelman’s first concern was that the interview should not be televised. He added that he would never lie to a student about his past, and if they asked him then he would confess to his past convictions. Of course, a very different impression is given from his attempts to begin tutoring someone.
