The only thing that occupied my mind last week was marketing for new tutors in Oxford and Cambridge. The main avenue for this is putting flyers in as many pigeonholes as possible in the colleges. I still do this myself (along with Harriet this year), because I simply don’t do much work that requires physical effort, and it’s a lovely feeling at the end of the day to be absolutely knackered, knowing that you’ve done something useful. The only downside to the two days was when we were interrogated by some porters about what we were doing, even after getting permission from senior members of the college. Generally I really appreciate what porters do, and that appreciation definitely grows with perspective after leaving uni, but there are some who just seem obstructive for no apparent reason.
So, all that was done on Thursday and Friday last week, and we’ve already had over 100 submitted applications from interested tutors, and roughly 3 times as many in the process of completing their application. This all augers well, and come September we’ll have lots of new outstanding recruits to add to our tutor team.
Now I’ve got a little time to plan my work this summer. I am still tutoring a student, and that ends a week on Wednesday, but from then I’m likely to be getting stuck into programming, and the whole website is likely to change quite dramatically in time for our influx of students in September.
