Academics at Oxford and Cambridge Universities have called for a vote of no confidence against David Willetts and the government’s plans for higher education reform. Over 150 fellows have put their name to a no confidence motion against the plans to charge students up to £9000 a year.
The staff at the universities have expressed ongoing concerns that the plans are ill-conceived, and in a statement made earlier this week Cambridge academics said that the reforms were damaging and ‘unravelling as we speak’.
It is hoped that the no confidence motion will prompt a pause and a re-think of the reforms in the same way as the NHS reforms have come back for review.
