A new system to help students learn maths is being introduced in the Falmouth area, and the claim is that it’s a genuine alternative to, and not nearly as expensive as, private tuition. Reported on the Falmouthpatch website, the Tamarind maths scheme has been developed to provide online help for students who struggle to maintain an interest in workbooks or flash cards, which are becoming increasingly staid in the modern world.

Tamarind maths coach Pam Marck said that this isn’t a new system, but it is new to the Falmouth area. Tamarind maths is a web-based program for students of all ages before university. It teaches fundamentals to students for only 10-15 minutes a day, and confirms to the recommended syllabus.

Each student using the system also has the guidance of a personal tutor, who tailors the program specifically to the individual, and provides incentives to learn, and rewards when a student does well. Marck says that the program really boosts students’ confidence, and improves results. She added that students struggle at higher levels when they don’t understand maths basics, and that is something which the program looks to identify and resolve.
