A website specialising in online tuition has been commended for the speed at which it’s growing. Reported on the Bristol 24-7 website, the Tutorhub site has reached 1,000 users in eight months since it was launched, and the founders, Kevin Gibson and Jon Ellis hope that the number of students will exceed 10,000 within a year.
The website attracts students through free, quick answers to short queries, such as ‘what are enzymes?’ and ‘why is hydrogen used as rocket fuel?’ However, more than 100 tutors are also available for one-to-one online tuition, which isn’t free.
Ellis, a former banker, said that online tuition is designed to meet the needs of today’s students; those who don’t want to wait for help, and have full access to many other ways of finding and sharing information from their own home. He says that students want ‘instant access’ to a tutor, rather than the wait associated with more traditional face-to-face tuition.
