Who needs a  tutor?

Parents usually tend to look for tutoring options after parents evenings or an alarming school report and, something I’ve noticed particularly in the last month, during a panicky run up to the exam. However, tutoring benefits all students, even those who are not struggling in school.

Not only does tutoring provide a more favorable atmosphere for learning, but also allows more opportunities for immediate and corrective feedback. The U.S. Department of Education states, “Research shows that tutoring is a great way for individuals and groups outside school to support learning. Students are given the opportunity to increase their academic performance and decrease frustrations.” Tutoring can be used to support gifted children, for whom the classroom lesson is dull, slow and unchallenging.

In view of the above, tutoring can be seen as a way to not only improve the grade of a student, but also an important part of their transition from one type of learning, that is more directed, to another which is more about coming up with their own ideas and having the confidence to speak up or write down those ideas and find ways to support their original conclusions.
