When was the last time you looked at our website?
I mean apart from the few minute updates you make every week. Before I became the Blue Tutors Administrator I must admit I hadn’t really looked at it for ages. It was my interview preparation that made me re read the pages I had read a couple of years before when preparing for my assessment. It’s a shame because our website is full of really good teaching advice.
Under ‘How to Teach’ we include our tutoring philosophy:
The single principle that guides our teaching method is: A tutor must elicit response that demonstrates understanding |
Although I do use this principle when teaching it’s good to be reminded of its importance. There is no point teaching a student an idea which can be forgotten the moment they, or you, walk out of the door. Real understanding isn’t easy to forget.
As well as the above section, which includes guidance on goal setting, creating the space for a student to think and other useful ideas, we have specific sections on tutoring younger children and how to help with correspondence and coursework. If you have a free 10 minutes, take a look.
Refresh your teaching by refreshing your own mind.
