Comparing Qualifications

I should probably start off by explaining that I haven’t woken up on Christmas day and thought “Oh, I must make sure I write my blog”. I’m actually writing this a few days before, and have just scheduled it to be published today (since I usually write my blog every Tuesday, and want to keep that up).

Again last week I had to make a big change to the website (very similar to the change I made a couple of weeks ago), and that meant the website was down for a few hours. Apologies to any tutors or students who were affected by this, but it should be the last time, I promise.

A more interesting task from last week was trying to categorise the qualification types that tutors and students enter. Harriet helped me, and I think we’ve got a good handle on everything now. The biggest problem is comparing similar qualifications; working out whether one is more difficult than another, and also trying to compare grades. For example, if someone has a grade A* in a GCSE, how does that compare to a grade D at A Level? It wasn’t easy, but we’ve worked out a good system, and we’re now a step closer to a much better way of matching tutors to students.
