Teachers at a conference in London have expressed concerns that the private tuition trend is damaging younger students. Some pupils as young as 4 now receive private tuition in key subjects such as English Maths and Science, and teachers are worried this may damage their confidence.
Younger students risk growing up believing that they are unable to meet the standards required, or that they are disappointing their parents. Further, tuition at too young an age is likely to make children anxious, and unable to enjoy learning. This means they run the risk of burning out by the time they reach crucial exams such as GCSEs and Alevels.
Whilst private tuition can be greatly beneficial for students in Primary and secondary school, care should be taken to ensure that tuition remains fun, and does not damage students’ enjoyment of education.
