Assessments and Programming

I conducted some assessments last week which was good fun, but the majority of what I did was programming. Loads of it. If you’re a tutor, you may have already noticed the changes to when lessons with a student come to an end, and if you’ve noticed that, then you’ve probably found it much easier than before. The other things I’ve been doing have been largely to reduce the amount of work we have to do when doing admin.

One really positive thing has been to improve our system for sending letters to new students. The letters contain details about the student’s new tutor, but it seems a bit pointless when the student has an email address, so we’ll now only send letters to students without an email address, which will reduce the amount of paper we use.

Another problem I’ve solved is when a previously registered tutor or student registers with us again. It can be very confusing for us when someone has two profiles, and also for the person with two profiles. It probably sounds fairly straightforward to stop this happening, but it really isn’t, and I spent a long time writing all the code so that it’s much easier for us to deal with that.
