Tests Ready to ‘Measure’ Tuition

It was a bit of a slow week last week, because Laura had to take 3 half days as part of her masters course, and that meant that I had admin to do. I did manage to get a fair amount done though, including getting close to finishing the work I’m doing on helping tutors to better explain the situation to us when lessons with a student come to an end. So far this has been a bit tiresome, with tutors having to write feedback to explain what has happened, and then someone from Blue Tutors reading that feedback and deciding what the next step needs to be. I’ve designed a more intelligent system for dealing with this, and hopefully I’ll be able to get it up and running by this time next week. We’ll see.

In other news, I think I’ve finally got some exams I’m happy with so that we can begin our experiment to test the effectiveness of tuition in general, but also to test how well our tutoring assessment scores correlate with improvements from students. Obviously this isn’t a simple case of measuring percentage increase in overall scores. We’ll actually be looking at certain skills students display when attempting to answer questions, to see whether these skills are developed by tuition.
