By Blue Tutors
I met with Laura last week, and we got cracking on categorising disciplines – the task I’ve been trying to get through for a few weeks now, and am finding incredibly difficult. Basically it looks like I’m going to need an expert in every subject to help me out, so if any of my friends are reading this (and I doubt they are), you can expect the offer of a drink from me soon in return for your intellect for an hour or so. Having said that, Laura and I made a good stab at categorising lots of the disciplines; Laura’s subject is English and mine Maths/Physics, so most common subjects are reasonably accessible to us.
We also had a strange situation last week where a tutor complained about some charges which had been applied to her account with us. What had happened is that the tutor had told us that she was no longer teaching a student, and when we checked the student was confused and explained that they were having regular lessons. This, in itself, isn’t that unusual. A small proportion of tutors try to avoid paying commission, and we always find out. I still find it strange that they don’t appreciate that without commission we wouldn’t have a business, and they wouldn’t have any students. Anyway, sorry for the digression, what was strange about this situation was that, once found out, the tutor said that she had decided to stop being a Blue Tutor almost immediately after accepting this particular student, as if that was fine. I’ve got no problem with a tutor deciding that they don’t want to pay us commission, and so doesn’t accept any more students, but I find it pretty nasty for someone to lie to us until they’re caught, and then act bizarrely self-righteous about everything they’ve done.
