Tutor Tiers and Tutor Ratings

I spent a lot of last week working on our new system for rating tutors. This is largely to determine whether someone is eligible to move up a tier, but also gives us a quick way to see an overall rating for a tutor’s past performance. It includes a lot of criteria, not just feedback given by students, but also feedback given by Blue Tutors, how extensively a tutor has completed his/her online profile, and similar things. An important factor is the number of lessons that a tutor has given in the past, which includes the average number of lessons per student, and how frequently a tutor doesn’t begin lessons with a student. Obviously these criteria have to be put in the context that sometimes it is a student’s fault if no, or few, lessons take place, but after a tutor has been assigned to a number of students it’s easy to tell whether that tutor is performing above or below average.

I had a good chat with Harriet about these statistics, given that she has much more day-to-day contact with tutors and students than I do, I think we’ve come up with good ideas about what levels are good and bad, and hopefully we’ll be able to give tutors clearer information about what’s required to move up a tier, something which was a bit wishy-washy under the old system.
