`The guitar? No, I haven't got a musical bone in my body.` I have heard this so many times from people of all ages, and its possibly the poorest excuse in the book. For a start, i don't remember coming across a musical bone in biology lessons, do you? So let's skip the bad excuses and get down to it-you, yes YOU, can play the guitar!
It might seem unachievable, but with a few simple goals and a push in the right direction you will be playing your first song in no time! The first step is easy-what music do you like? What songs do you want to play? Right from the off a good tutor should be able to accommodate your musical preferences to help you learn everything you need and want to know. Simplified versions of your favourite songs can be worked out so you don't start learning the same songs as everyone else, meaning to you can have a personalised music syllabus, created just for you! Your tutor should know what techniques you need to learn to develop as a guitarist, and can put these into the songs you want to learn. Great! Then you just need to create a little time to practice. This bit really is easy, there is always half an hour in a day to sit down and have a play of your guitar! `But I'm just too busy` I hear you say! There is always time - get up a little earlier, watch less tv at night, take a guitar to work and practice at lunch, it can be done!
So now you are learning the songs you want, have some time to practice and tutor is pushing you in the right direction, and most importantly your enjoying yourself! Continuing along this path is really good for you-you learn a new skill, improve your confidence, boost creativity and it allows you to innovate and express yourself.
The guitar is the instrument for you, it's the instrument for everyone, so stop making excuses, buy a cheap guitar and get in touch with a tutor to start you of on a musical path!
