I just about survived without Harriet last week. We weren’t actually too busy, but I had stupidly arranged a million other things to do, including some more tutor assessments, and arranging a stag weekend for a friend, from which I’m driving back today. However, it does mean that I didn’t get a huge amount of my own work done, and I’m itching to get back to working on the online tuition webpages.
An interesting part of last week was seeing how many tutors don’t understand our update system too well. When I spoke to a lot of the tutors who had overdue updates they often said things like “I haven’t heard from the student, so didn’t think I had to do anything”, or “I updated it ages ago, and it didn’t go through”. Obviously on occasion it may be the tutor’s fault that he/she doesn’t understand, but I’m always looking for ways to make our systems work better, and will have a think about how to do so here. I suspect that something so simple as better explaining what we expect the tutor to do next, and when we will next ask for an update, will make tutors feel more comfortable, and less like they’re being bothered unnecessarily.
