Fewer Tutors in Oxford?

Obviously I didn’t get much done last week other than all the assessments I did. It was slightly weird that the demand from tutors seemed to be much higher in Cambridge than in Oxford, and I’m not really sure why. We distributed a similar number of flyers at each university, so maybe it’s simply due to the timing of the assessments; they were on Thursday and Friday in Oxford, and Monday and Tuesday in Cambridge, and I suppose it’s possible that the few days difference meant that some tutors decided to book an assessment over the summer, and not just before they left Oxford.

What I did notice last week is that I really enjoy it when someone tutors me in maths and science-y stuff. The trouble is usually that, on the rare occasion that they decide to do that, they start whizzing through things ridiculously quickly, I think in an attempt not to patronise me. In fact, when the topic is challenging, I’d be much happier for us to move at a glacial pace. I think that’s a general problem more prevalent in scientists than art students though: the ability to understand what might be difficult to understand.
