I spent a lot of last week trying to solve a problem with online tuition (in fact, it will affect the whole website). The idea is that we want to allow more than one person to log in at a time so that if someone under 18 is logged in as a student, their parent can log in at the same time to buy more tuition credit. It’s actually not that complicated, but the trouble comes when I ask: what if the parent wants to become a student, or what if the parent logs in first, how do we then allow the student to log in? Those possibilities probably seem a little unlikely, but trust me they will happen; the best way to discover a flaw in some logic, however small, is to let the public loose on it.
Elsewhere things are ticking along nicely. We actually taught fewer lessons in February than in 2012, but it being a day shorter this year does make a difference, and it’s common to find that more tutoring in one month means less tutoring in the next, just because of where weekends and exams fall. In fact I should definitely look at how days of the week compare in terms of when most tuition takes place. I might schedule that in for this week!
