No Work in Texas

I didn’t write this blog last week, partly because I didn’t manage to do much Tutoring related work during my week away, but the reason for that was because I was so busy helping with the Texan wedding I was attending. It was a little unsettling, given that I had hoped to do a reasonable amount while I was away, but I suppose that, by now, I should have realised that working holidays are either not holidays or don’t involve much work.

I was jetlagged at the start of last week; something I don’t mind when it means getting up at 4am, because I seem to get loads done before the rest of the world wakes up, but I hate it the other way around because if I force myself to get up at a reasonable time, I end up feeling tired for the whole day. I did make some progress with rewriting our teaching guidelines, and, to my horror, found a few grammatical mistakes in them. At the moment the guidelines are a little rhetorical in places, and I wondered whether that make them feel a little patronising for tutors, but, after asking a few people, it doesn’t seem to be the case, and given that tutors so often complement, not just the content of the teaching guidelines, but also the way they are delivered, I’ve decided to avoid changing them as drastically as I had planned to.
