By Blue Tutors
I did some more tutor assessments in Cambridge last week. These ones had been planned for a while, unlike those in Oxford the week before, and unlike the Oxford day, this day didn’t feature a biblical storm which stopped me getting there.
The assessments themselves were ok. We still have the problem of tutors not setting good lesson goals, and while I am working to try and improve this, we’re about to put something in place which will change our recruitment system quite radically, and hopefully for the better. The idea is that we will use a separate company to provide training and assessment of tutors, which will be done both before a tutor starts with us and continually as they tutor. It’s something that a lot of tutors have asked for, but it’s taken us a long time to find a solution that works. I should say that we aren’t throwing away all the effort we’ve put into our teaching ideas and our assessments. The new company has developed our ideas, and I’m confident that their assessment will be amazing!
