16-10-16: History of Art and Archaeology A-level are dropped
The last exam board offering A-level History of Art has announced that it will no longer do so from next year. This is following a series of changes made to the national curriculum by the former Education Minister to reduce the number of creative arts subjects in favour of the more traditional and “challenging” courses, like maths, English and science. Several academics say that the decision to cut the subject wrongly insinuates that it is a ‘soft’ option, re-enforcing its perception as a “posh person’s leisure activity”. However, AQA insist their decision has nothing to do with the importance and value of the subject itself.
