It’s been a good week at Blue Tutors. Everything thing has run very smoothly, and we’re beginning to be contacted by lots more students who want tuition for the June exams.
I recently had an interesting insight into the standards required for new teachers in the UK. I was tutoring a lady who is originally from Spain, and has taken a QTS course, but she is yet to pass the maths test to complete her qualification, and is really struggling with it. There’s actually an article about this very thing on our articles page (http://bluetutors.co.uk/tuition_news.php?title=MPs-Call-For-Better-Standards-Among-New-Teachers).
The tutoring experience made me think about why certain criteria are set for new teachers, and whether they’re necessary. The lady in question wants to teach Spanish, and I didn’t really see how her understanding of a box and whisker diagram was going to greatly increase her ability to teach.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to a busy week now in the run up to the Easter holidays. We’re expecting lots of students who need a tutor’s help over the two weeks, and also during study leave.
