You’re finally reading this through WordPress. I won’t go on about what I’ve done, because I’ve mentioned it a number of times before on this blog, but I’m really glad that I’ve finally finished this, and hopefully it’s going to make our website much easier to find.
We were contacted last week by a company who have a library of instructional videos on their website, and they wanted our help to produce a number of mathematical videos that tutored people on how to do certain things – like solving quadratic equations, and things like that. I said that I would be able to help, being a mathematician, and it turns out that they actually want me to be in the videos! I wasn’t really prepared for that, but it will be great advertising for us, since the videos will link to our site, and be branded with the Blue Tutors logo. However, I’m only helping with some of the topics, because the company have a large American audience, and some requests were very particular to students in the US, such as calculating a GPA, or the result of an SAT exam. I think we’ll search among our tutors for someone who can do that, or if you’re reading this, and you’re a science graduate from the states then let me know.
Also, I’m starting to tutor my first student for ages this week. I met her and her father last week, and they want me to do three two hour lessons every week, which is a lot more than I was expecting, but I have really missed tutoring, and it’s very convenient for me, so I’m looking forward to that. The only downside is that the student is doing two decision maths modules, one as part of the normal Maths A-level, and one as part of Further Maths. I didn’t do decision maths for A-level, and the courses at university tended to have different names for the ideas involved, so I‘ll have to brush up on that over the next couple of weeks.
