Firstly, I’d like to apologise if anyone was greeted by an alarming security message when visiting our website on Thursday. Harriet noticed something at first, and then a student called us to say that they didn’t want to use our find a tutor form, because the website displayed a message saying that it wasn’t secure. We didn’t receive any messages from tutors about the problem, but if you did see the message then I’m sorry. I’m always paranoid that this sort of thing is my fault, and that I’ve forgotten to do something, but it was actually a small mistake (which led to a big problem) made by the company who host our website. Thankfully it was a very easy problem to fix, and we were back to normal working order within 15 minutes. It was just the worst day for that sort of problem to happen, because we’d just sent out a tutor newsletter, and loads of tutors were visiting the website.
Anyway, despite that massive shock last week everything else ran very smoothly. Student requests for tutors are coming in thick and fast now, and we’re receiving lots of great feedback after the A-level results were published. The only downside for me was that I didn’t get round to skinning Wordpress last week, as I had planned. My problem is that I find it very difficult to predict how long a programming task will take, and I started tackling something which I thought was going to take an hour, and it ended up taking six. The answer this week to is start with Wordpress, and not get caught up doing something else.
