A new tutoring service is taking advantage of social networking to match tutors and students. A report on the Central Florida Future website tells of how TMS (Tutor Matching Service) has been launched as a Facebook application, and is currently being used by two schools in Florida.
The application allows students to search for tutors by subject, and each tutor’s profile can then be viewed, complete with a tutor’s complete academic record, and experience in teaching the subject required by the student. Tutors can display appointments on their profiles, which students can then book with a click of a button. Tutors are rated by their students, and are asked to provide certification of their qualifications, both of which build the tutor’s credibility, and allow them to gradually increase their tuition fee.
The idea of using social networking to provide tutors has been seen a great approach. Rajiv Asnani, a spokesperson for TMS said that “it provides one real central location that students can look for tutors”. The tutoring service has also won the Cade prize for innovation, as recognition for what it has achieved.
