In a report on the Mirror’s website, a private tutor explains how he’s recently begun tutoring students in East Yorkshire with great success. Geoff Harriman is a former window cleaner, but has ditched that to offer private tuition, and already has 19 students local to him. Geoff, 61, said “Teachers looking after classes of more than 30 children can’t give enough individual attention. However, a private tutor can help coach a child to prepare better for exams.”
Geoff is a former scout leader, and said that he would have begun tutoring years ago, but thought that to do so you needed qualifications. Experienced tutor, Graham Woodward, pointed out that this isn’t the case at all, and that someone with the capability and education to do so can start tutoring whenever they wish.
Graham Woodward, 63, has 20 years experience as a private tutor, and has started a business where he tries to help prospective tutors decided whether the world of private tuition is for them, and helps them to get started. Graham also has 20 students whom he teaches once per week, as well as devoting his time to helping new tutors join the industry.
