I had a very frustrating incident this week when, after spending ages sorting out dropdown predictive lists for the website, I discovered a bug in the code of the software I was using. I’m basically now starting from scratch with some new code. The idea is to help our tutors and students to enter subject names which have already been categorised, so that it’s much easier to match tutors to students. However, the problem was that the dropdown list behaved very strangely, and would be nasty for tutors and students to use; it would work, but I think the amount of time spent responding to complaints about it would be much more than the time required to start with some new code and do it properly.
That was the bulk of what I was doing this week. Also, Harriet’s feeling a little under the weather, so I’m covering her job, which is pretty crazy right now, because we’re receiving so many requests for tuition. It’s largely due to a marketing campaign which we’ve just run, but it’s also the time of year when lots of students (or their parents) decide that they want to knuckle down and prepare properly for the June exams. What it means is that if you’re a tutor, you can expect to be very busy for the next 5 months!
