A recent survey of private tutors in the US shows that the majority of students improve by at least one grade with as little as 10 hours of tuition. The report on PRWEB said that in a survey of 269 independent tutors showed that 72% of students improved by between one and two full grades after 10 hours of tuition, and 12% improved by more than 2 grades. Only 4% of students show minimal improvement.

Some tutors involved in the survey were asked why they thought that the improvement was so great. One tutor put it down to the individual attention. He felt that in a one-to-one situation a tutor can better target a student’s individual weaknesses and gaps in knowledge, and can also teach in a fun and interactive way that can’t be achieved in a classroom setting. A number of tutors said that the comfort of private tuition was a big factor, and that student’s are happier to discuss their problems and ask questions than in a classroom, where they fear being ridiculed by their peers, or dismissed by their teacher.

The rapid rate of improvement when a student begins their lessons is seen as good news for parents who are worried about the cost of private tuition. Such a dramatic improvement after only 10 hours of lessons means that it doesn’t cost of fortune for students to realise the benefits of having a private tutor. In fact, many tutors in the survey said that after a month or so of lessons, it was more about maintaining the improvement, and students tend to have less frequent lessons than they have at the start.
