Newcastle and Oxford

This week was a bit difficult because I spent a lot of it in Newcastle visiting friends. I say a lot of the week, in terms of working days, I was only away for the end of Thursday afternoon, and Friday, but given how much I’ve done on weekends recently, it feels like I’ve been away for large chunks of working time.

Before leaving last week I did start to put things in place for online tuition, although I’m a little disappointed at the moment with progress there. I’ve now discovered that there are long-term issues with the whiteboard and with a delay to the audio communication.

This week I’m in Oxford for a day to train a new tutor assessor there, and I’m meeting in the morning with a lady who runs the Jacari programme (a charitable tutoring scheme). They want an online system for recording lessons like the one we have, and I said that I would have a chat with them to see what we can do. Hopefully we’ll be able to find a soltuion that they’re happy with, and one that won’t mean another mountain of work for me – I really can’t take on any more at the moment.
