The tutoring course I ran in Oxford went really very well. It was a little difficult because I hadn’t seen the room we were using beforehand, and it wasn’t the ideal arrangement, but that didn’t create too many problems. Overall the feedback was positive, and I definitely think that the content of the course is spot on, and creates a very clear message to anyone who wants to learn the basics of tuition.
The only aspect that has to be improved is the exercises that I ask the participants to do. I have tried to recreate situations that will illustrate the ideas we discuss, and also so that the participants can practise dealing with realistic situations. Annoyingly an exercise that does both of these things, but is still accessible to someone from an arts or a sciences background is a very difficult thing to create. The positive is that I know exactly what the problem is now, so it’s a just a matter of spending some time thinking about it.
Oh, and also I’ve chosen a programmer to work on our online tuition program. He should get underway by next week, so we’re counting down to when that’s available.
