Tutor Assessments Getting Better

I’m just looking at my diary for the upcoming month, and there’s virtually nothing in it! This is really great news, because it’s the travelling around, and the preparations for travelling around that eat into my time, and stop me getting on with more productive work. I’ve also stopped tutoring the student I was teaching, so now we’re just crossing our fingers for when the A level results come out in August.

Last week I was in Cambridge on Thursday and Oxford on Friday, doing lots of assessments. I met a lot of really great tutors, and I’m quite excited about the additions to our tutor database for the upcoming year. Also, there is such a massive difference now in the quality of the teaching I see at assessments compared to a few years ago. Obviously applicants now have to pay for their assessment, and this change was introduced to allow us to station assessors throughout the country, making assessments more convenient and more frequent for potential tutors. However, I think a side-effect has been that tutors generally take the assessment much more seriously, and prepare fully.

This week Harriet and I will be taking some time to discuss the way qualifications work on the website, and then I’m probably looking at a couple of months before that new system is underway. I’m very excited about this, and it will be the culmination of nearly a year of planning and hard work.
