A company called the Better Business Bureau (BBB) issued an ‘F’ rating this week to an online tuition website. Reported on the KGNB website, BBB issues the rating to those companies who are said to be failing, and the tutoring website did not meet the standards of acceptable customer service. The website is TutorNext.com, which, it has been discovered, is operated by the same company as TutorVista.com. TutorVista has also been given the ‘F’ rating by BBB.
The first bone of contention among TutorNext’s customers is the quality of service. Students have reported having difficulty connecting to a tutor, which is presumably a problem with the company’s software. The most worrying complaint though is the standard of tuition received; TutorVista use many tutors who are based in India, and while the academic standard of many of the tutors is very high, communication and a tutor’s knowledge of syllabuses in other countries create difficulties.
Lastly, BBB found that TutorNext renewed monthly memberships without authorisation from the student, so that students found that they were charged up to £200 on their credit card for tuition that they didn’t want.
