A school in Rutherford County has managed to hire three tutors to help their students after a donation of $2,000 from the Parent-Teacher Organisation. The tutoring will be free for the students concerned, and are designed to ensure that the students achieve the minimum standards in Mathematics and reading that are set by the state. The tutors will each do 35 hours of lessons over a 5 week period.

It’s said that the best students are those whose parents get involved in their child’s education, and this is the motivation behind the PTO’s donation for extra tuition. Teacher, Amy Gullion, said that reinforcement of the school’s message at home, and proactive support from students’ parents is “absolutely vital”. She added “the more involvement we have with our parents the better off the child is because they see we have the same goal”.

From the parents’ point of view, the goal to improve standard in the school is something which is not solely down to the school and its teachers. Parent, Suzanne Arnold, said “We want to see all children succeed and we’re all in this together.”
