A lovely story about a family who had fallen upon hard times was published on the Boston.com website this week. It tells of a young student who has recently completed a tutor training programme, having benefitted immeasurably from similar tuition herself.

Christopher Sabella was in a traffic accident 4 years ago which left him without a vehicle, and unable to drive to his job. Shortly afterwards Sabella lost his family home as he couldn’t keep up mortgage repayments, and he and his two daughters, Tayler and Britni, found themselves in a single motel room wondering how to survive. After a week at the motel, the family moved into a shelter, and very quickly their lives began to change.

Christopher found a job at a local printing company, and his daughters were introduced to a scheme called ‘School on Wheels’, which provides tutors to struggling families so that their children have the opportunity of private tuition, so that they don’t fall behind at school due to problems at home.

The Sabella family now live in an apartment, and Tayler, who is now 17, has just completed the tutor training programme offered by School on Wheels. She says that with first-hand knowledge about how much a tutor can help, she realises how much she will be able to change other children’s lives, and is immensely proud to have the opportunity to help other children who are only a few years behind her.
