A new comparison website known as Unistats has been set up which will supply government approved information about Universities and the Courses that they offer. The website will reveal the full cost of studying at the universities, the number of teaching hours and how much students are likely to earn after the graduate.

The website was designed to give students a clear picture of what they are likely to receive at university, in light of the large increase in tuition fees. Business secretary Vince Cable hailed the website as a large leap forward in helping students make the right decisions regarding their higher education choices. The website works like insurance price comparison sites, and students can enter their preferences and compare different universities.

However, the website has received criticism from Universities, which point out that the website’s focus on the cost of education suggests that the government is attempting to justify the hugely increased cost of degrees. The pointed out that students need proper support rather than ‘gimmicks’, and urged prospective students to visit university open days in order to get a real feel for what life would be like there.
