I’ve been redesigning the way that tutors register and log in to the website. The main problem with this in the past has been that, when tutors sign up, they are sent an email containing a random password which they can use to log in. The same thing happens if someone forgets their password: they’re sent a new random one. We’ve found that a large number of tutors never reset their password to something they’ll remember, and, as a result, they either keep the random password in their email account (which we don’t recommend), or request a new password every time they log in, which must be really frustrating.
As we grow, we’re finding more and more tutors are having log in issues, and even though the number is a fraction of the total number of tutors logging in, it’s still enough to make it a problem. Also, we would like more students to log in regularly, and the problematic system probably doesn’t help there.
From now on tutors will be asked to choose a password when they register, and hopefully that will make it far far less likely for them to forget it. However, even if they do forget it, the solution will be a link they can use to reset their password, rather than us creating a random one.
