Last week I met with a software development company to yet again try to sort out online tuition. This is something I’ve said many times before, and this time last year I thought I had sorted it out, but that fell through, and since a friend has been helping me to plan it so that I don’t continue to have the let downs that have plagued the project so far. It was an interesting meeting, and we’ll have to see what they come back with in the next couple of weeks.
I also met with Harriet last week, who’s back unexpectedly early from her fieldwork in Mali (there’s been a coup, and it was dangerous for her to stay, which would have scared the life out of me). After talking about her crazy last two months, I filled her in on the changes at Blue Tutors since she left, and I really didn’t realise how much I’ve done since January. I told Harriet where I’m up to with categorising qualifications, which is probably the biggest project I’ve ever worked on with Blue Tutors, and it was very helpful to have a sounding board for something like that; even though I always think I’m doing the right thing (otherwise I wouldn’t be doing it), just having to verbalise what I’m doing clarifies the ideas in my head. Added to that, Harriet asked interesting questions which gave me ideas about what to do next. The great thing about owning your own company is that you can listen to advice, and then go away and decide on the best solution. If you’re good at it then you’ll learn that your own ideas will always seem better at first, so it makes sense to consider other ideas for longer than you instinctively would. This was an absolute nightmare before I was the sole owner of Blue Tutors, because I couldn’t just make decisions myself, and everything took three times as long.
