Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail
While the summer is here and it’s tutoring’s quiet season, why not get ahead ready for the rush in August and September?
It’s always obvious if you don’t know the curriculum very well, or the board and it’s far more nerve wracking at a trial lesson if you are unsure of how the student will be assessed.
Parents & students are always very impressed if you know the curriculum well. So, instead of grappling with it the night before you go and see a potential new student, why not sort it out in your head while you have some space of your own.
For English, it may not, of course be possible to predict which books will be chosen by your students’ teachers but you can at least be familiar with the suggested list, most of which you will probably have read before anyway.
For Maths and Sciences, the curriculum might change but the skills will presumably stay the same. Make sure you know what is required when & familiarise yourself with the differences between the popular exam boards.
For English, get online and download some of the great resources available free. If you turn up to a trial lesson with some professional looking documents then it all looks good for you.
