Teaching the Parents
Following on from my article yesterday about Chunking and Partitioning as maths techniques being beyond most parents’ comprehension, I thought I would present a further opportunity for tutoring.
Given these hard economic times when parents are continually weighing up the benefits versus costs of hiring a tutor, we could offer tuition to parents who would be willing to support their own child in early stage Mathematics. In this way tutors would gain another few hours work and the parents would gain the knowledge to be able to support their children through KS1 and KS2 Maths.
While for some parents this may not be a viable option - perhaps their confidence is so low that they don’t feel they be able to understand even given a few lessons, for others it would provide them with a way of getting back in touch with their child’s education.
Similarly this could be applied to Phonics teaching in English, although as this has been around rather longer it perhaps will present less of an opportunity that within Maths.
