  5. 15-08-13: More Students Taking GCSE Exams Early

    Exams regulator Ofqual has announced that many more students are taking GCSEs a year early. Statistics for Maths show that nearly a quarter of pupils taking the GCSE this year are under 16. Ofqual also released figures which show that tens of thousands of students have taken GCSE Maths several times, using different exam boards each time.

  6. 13-08-13: Report Warns Traditional Degrees Won't Fill Gap in Technical Skills

    The Confederation of British Industry has said that the UK’s higher education system is failing to close what it calls its “chronic skills gaps” because of the tendency to encourage students into traditional academic degrees.

  7. 08-08-13: Primary School Place Shortfall of 120,000

    Figures released this week show that 120,000 children may not be able to start primary school this year due to a shortage in places. The Labour party conducted an analysis of the government’s plans to increase school places by 230,000, which showed that there will still be a significant shortfall this Autumn.

  8. 06-08-13: White Students Less Likely to Apply to University than Teens from any other Ethnic Group

    The university and colleges admissions service UCAS has released data which shows that white teenagers are now less likely to apply for university than teenagers from any other ethnic group. The research revealed that fewer than three out of ten 18 year olds have applied for degree courses in Autumn, while applications from black students have increased significantly since 2006.

  9. 01-08-13: New Exams for Five and Eleven Year Olds

    The government has announced plans to introduce new tests which will be taken by 5 and 11 year olds. The plans have emerged as a result of consultation which was designed to ascertain how successful schools are at implementing the new curriculum for primary schools.
