A recent report by the Sutton trust shows that the number of children receiving private tuition is at an all time high. As reported on the Daily Mail’s website, the survey showed that 1 in 5 children at secondary school get a tutor, and that students studying for their GCSEs are most likely to look for extra tutoring, because parents want their children to attend a good sixth form.

Interestingly the richer and poorer areas of the country were those where students received the most home tuition, 23% of students in rich areas get a tutor, and the figure is 24% in poor areas. However, those students living in areas of average wealth are least likely to look for a tutor. London is the most popular place in the country for a student to find a tutor, with 33% of students in London receiving private tuition at some point.

Half of the school students who received home tuition said that it was to help with a specific exam. 2 out of 5 said that the tutoring was just to help with their schoolwork in general, and 18% said that it was due to an interest in a particular subject.
