We had a bit of a shock last weekend when an assessment day nearly went the way of the pear. It was in Manchester, and the lounge that our assessor uses there was closed unexpectedly because there had been a fire. I panicked. I was on the way to a wedding (running kind of late), and just couldn’t do anything to help. Luckily Laura was at home, and was able to call the prospective tutors and redirect them to a new venue. Between Laura and Stephanie (the assessor), they managed to ensure that everyone made it, which was a massive relief, and I was very impressed. I don’t know if it’s a female thing, but whereas my instant reaction to things like this seems to be abject panic, and indefinite procrastination, Laura and Stephanie just got on with it.
I met with Harriet last week for her help to categorise social science disciplines, of which there seem to be more than any other discipline group. This went really well, and I’m starting to feel much more organised about the whole thing. I was explaining to Harriet that I won’t feel truly like I’ve achieved anything until I can enter two disciplines and our system instantly returns a significance, telling us how related they are, but now that doesn’t seem so far away, not nearly as far as it did two weeks ago.
