Can you believe it? Another call for reform in the field of Education. Michael Gove is being called to comment on a leak from his office in which plans to revert to O Level type qualifications are being discussed.
Angela Harrison in a report today (21/06/2012) states that sources have told the BBC that Mr Gove believes GCSEs "have gone beyond the point of rescue".
The proposed changes, which could be brought in for pupils from autumn 2014, would amount to the biggest change to the exams system for a generation.
Less academic pupils would sit a different "more straightforward" exam, like the old CSE.
Having written articles over the past few months on the continual criticisms of both GCSE and GCE examinations, I must admit it came as no surprise. However, the enormity of the planned overhaul and the implications for those students who have to make the transition from GCSE styled learning to the older style of examinations at the end of the two-year course, are yet to be openly discussed.
According to the document seen by the The Mail, the plan is to put the new proposals out for consultation in the autumn, so it is not definite that they will happen. As such we will have to sit and wait until Mr Gove, who does not comment on leaked documents, stands up and faces the questions.
